Rosanna Bayon Moore Named 80th District's Woman of the Year

By Community Report

Assemblyman V. Manuel Pérez announced today that Rosanna Bayon Moore of El Centro has been selected as the 80th Assembly District’s 2010 Woman of the Year. She will visit the Capitol this Monday, when women from all over the state will be honored for their contributions to their local communities.

“The Imperial Valley has its share of challenges, but we are rich in community spirit and civic-mindedness,” said Assemblyman Pérez. “Rosanna is a shining example of someone who freely gives of her time and resources to help our community. Her energetic spirit and dedicated volunteerism makes the Imperial Valley an even better, and healthier, place to live.”

Over the years, Ms. Bayon Moore has made many contributions to health and wellness in the Imperial Valley. She currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Trustees for the El Centro Regional Medical Center and is also a member of the Imperial Valley Child Asthma Program Committee. She was instrumental in planning the first ever Imperial Valley Asthma Awareness Walk in May 2009, and is a tireless advocate for increased education on child asthma awareness and prevention. Additionally, Ms. Bayon Moore also serves on the Imperial County Juvenile Justice Commission, which seeks to reduce arrest and crime rates among our community’s youth.

Reflecting on volunteerism, Ms. Bayon Moore said, “Our community offers endless opportunities to volunteer. While there are always discouraging moments no matter where you are, those who are committed to service are almost without exception grateful for new ideas and energetic participation.”

Ms. Bayon Moore has also taken an active interest in local government, having served on the El Centro City Council for four years, including one term as Mayor in 2007. She currently works as the Regional Affairs Officer for the ImperialCounty field office of the Southern California Association of Governments. She is married to Dean Syrengelas, a special education teacher. They have two young sons, Vasilios and Jimmy.

The Woman of the Year Awards will be held on International Women’s Day, Monday, March 8, at the Capitol. The day’s proceedings will begin with a ceremony, where honorees will join Members on the Floor of the Assembly for a special session. After lunch with the Assemblyman and Capitol staff, there will be a reception hosted by the Legislative Women’s Caucus.
